Earlier this year, the Legado team travelled to Rioja to immerse themselves in one of Spain’s most celebrated regions and a great source of inspiration for Nieves. 

Famed for its rolling vineyards, historic towns, and extraordinary winemaking traditions, the trip centred on a visit to Nieves’ old friends at Bodegas Muga. Founded in 1932, these historic vintners remain one of the most respected in Spain, set apart by a commitment to excellence that spans generations and a genuine warmth, humility, and generosity that the family shares. 

Our time with Muga was spent cycling through vineyards, exploring an incredible archive of vintages, and enjoying each as they were designed – paired with traditional regional dishes – each moment offering an insight into the artful melding of landscape, heritage, and craftsmanship that exists in every bottle. This connection between food and wine, culture and place is at the heart of Legado. A celebration of the thing that makes it not just uniquely Spanish, but Riojan, Basque, Andaluz, and so on.

For Nieves, the relationship with Muga is deeply personal. Their wines have been part of her journey for many years – celebrated at Sabor, and now finding a home at Legado. The family’s generosity and dedication mirror the values we hold close: authenticity, hospitality, and a respect for tradition, whilst continuing to push forward.

Bringing Muga’s wines to Legado is about more than pouring a glass of something fantastic – it’s about sharing a story, a friendship, and a legacy. We are proud to continue showcasing the work of Bodegas Muga and to invite our guests to experience a taste of Rioja here at Legado.
